During acupuncture treatments, sterile disposable needles are inserted into the skin and left in place from 10 seconds upto 30 minutes depending upon the desired effect. Modern acupuncture uses the principles of anatomy, physiology and pathology rather than the chinese philosophy and meridians used in traditional acupunture.
